Prof Jan commenced practice on 4th November 2022 at the Margaret River Surgery in Margaret River, Western Australia.
My mission is to offer a missing piece often absent in modern healthcare: the space for healing through presence, connection, and stillness — while maintaining professional standards and working collaboratively with your existing medical team.
I do not aim to replace your GP or specialist but to complement their care with the gentle and holistic tools of Chinese medicine, especially acupuncture. This practice honours both the clinical and the unseen aspects of healing.
• Deliver safe, evidence-informed acupuncture and adjunctive care for pain and chronic conditions.
• Minimise harm by avoiding unnecessary procedures and reducing reliance on long-term medications, particularly opioids.
• Collaborate respectfully with your GP and specialists, referring appropriately and supporting shared investigations when needed.
• Incorporate mind-body approaches such as meditation, Tai Chi, qigong, and lifestyle guidance as optional supports for healing.
• Offer a treatment space that prioritises presence, energetic awareness, soft touch, and deep listening—elements often overlooked in fast-paced clinical settings.
• Support not only physical improvement but a return to inner stillness, clarity, and spiritual coherence—allowing healing to unfold gently and meaningfully
What to Expect
A first consultation usually works by assessing your symptoms, e.g., pain, with a detailed history, exam and relevant investigations. From there, we discuss alternatives for further investigation and management. If there is evidence for acupuncture as an adjunct, we may choose it as a pain-relieving modality in addition to standard care.
Your management plan will include liaison with your usual health care provider. If acupuncture is entertained, the benefit will usually be seen within 1 to 3 sessions. Other modalities will be considered if there is no improvement in that time frame.

Acupuncture treatments are not just needling alone. Each session provides information and teaching of appropriate evidence-based, non-pharmacological techniques. Thus, patients will not only have assistance with pain relief from the acupuncture but learn to gain benefit from their painful condition themself.
Referrals
This practice provides medical acupuncture services as an adjunct to standard medical care. Although Dr Andrew Jan is an experienced medical practitioner, it is often most appropriate that you have seen your general practitioner or relevant specialist prior to your appointment here. This ensures that any necessary investigations and standard medical management have been arranged.

Where possible, a written referral or phone call is preferred. This allows communication with your treating doctor or specialist, ensuring that your care is coordinated, and that acupuncture is integrated safely and effectively within your broader healthcare plan.

Please note that while acupuncture may provide symptom relief or support your condition, it does not replace the need for standard medical assessment and treatment where required.
